Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a common cause of infertility in women, in which eggs may not fully mature or the ovaries do not release eggs during ovulation. The exact cause of PCOS is not known, but experts think that several factors like genetics play a major role in PCOS. It has been said that people whose mother, sister, or aunt has PCOS have a higher risk of being diagnosed with PCOS. Obese people also have a higher risk of PCOS. Unlike most women would think, having PCOS does not mean you cannot get pregnant. PCOS is one of the most common, but treatable, causes of infertility in women. In women with PCOS, the hormonal imbalance interferes with the growth and release of eggs from the ovaries. If a woman does not ovulate (release a mature egg), she cannot get pregnant.

Here are some symptoms of PCOS

  • Irregular menstrual cycle: Women with PCOS may miss their periods or have fewer periods in a year (less than 8 periods in a year). For some others, their period may come every 21 days or more often. Some women with PCOS may stop menstruating.
  • Hirsutism- This is a condition when a woman has too much hair on the face, chin, or parts of the body where men usually have hair. Hirsutism affects up to 70% of women with PCOS.
  • Thinning hair or hair loss on the scalp; this is when a woman exhibits male-pattern baldness.
  • Acne on the face, chest, and upper back.
  • Skin tags: These are small excess flaps of skin in the armpits or neck area.
  • Darkening of skin, especially along neck creases, in the groin, and underneath the breasts.
  • Weight gain or difficulty losing weight.

If you are trying to conceive, and you have PCOS, you might find these two tips quite helpful.

  1. Lose Weight: Losing weight through healthy eating and regular physical activity can help regularize the menstrual cycle and improve fertility in obese or overweight people.
  2. Get EVERGREEN FORMULAR FOR WOMEN: EVERGREEN FORMULAR FOR WOMEN is a powerful blend of vitamins and nutrients that correct hormonal imbalance, and greatly increases your chances of conception, even with PCOS.
